Donating blood - clarification

Hi,

I mentioned in one of my posts about all of us donating blood because people with cancer need a great number of blood and platelet transfusions. Anyone who lives in Colorado would NOT be donating blood for Detlef specifically. They don't let you do that anymore. Many, many years ago (around 25-30 years), in a galaxy far, far, away . . . . . . hospitals would let you donate blood to go directly to a family member. Now they use donated blood, that is the best match for the patient, and that blood usually doesn't come from a close family member or friend.

I just wrote that post, to help all of us be more aware of why we should be willing to donate blood when the opportunity presents itself, or to proactively go and donate blood at the Red Cross, or other organizations who supply blood to hospitals. Having a friend or family member who needs a great number of blood transfusions, will help us all to be motivated to donate blood whenever possible.

Hope that helps everyone understand.

Lisa
