Our weekly update for Detlef and his fight against ALL. . . . .
Detlef finished up his second round of chemo at the newer hospital this last week, and tolerated things pretty well. He has been at home (Dietmar and Jen's basement), most of this last week, going in for some blood work from time to time. Chance has been staying with him, and they have been able to go outside, walk the dogs, and stop for coffee on some days. I'm sure with the record setting storm, they have been watching it snow, and snow and snow. . . . . . .
Karma's body decided to be sick, so she went to the doctor, and was placed on an antibiotic to help her get better faster. She says that today she feels like she is among the living again. She couldn't be around Detlef too much, because she didn't want him to get sick as well, and so far he hasn't shown any signs of infection.
Tomorrow they will be meeting with the transplant doctor (I'll call him Dr. B), to look at what that will entail. The oncologist at the hospital is pretty sure that they will do at least one more round of chemo before the transplant, but we will know more tomorrow.
I am listing a reference about allogenic stem cell transplant, which is the procedure they are planning on with Dietmar and Detlef. One of the things that I read in this article, is that usually there is a 1 in 4 chance of a sibling being a match, depending on the number of siblings that you have. What a miracle for Dietmar to be a perfect match. We are all so incredibly thankful!
